Spiritual insight makes us all cocky, in the beginning. We think we’ve found a special immunity to being human. We look upon others with sympathy because they have not seen what we have seen. Oh, bless our innocence!
Worst of all, when we find others in despair and struggling with life, we think we know how to save them and spout out spiritual phrases that only feel like an aggression to the suffering soul.
Perhaps worse even than that, we think they need saving!
But we need not worry, life is hot on our heels and will soon bring us to our knees once more so that we may grow in humility. By and by, we soften, and stop trying to save people or help them know what we think we know.
Instead, we learn how to do something truly spiritual. We learn to listen. And we learn to do so without an agenda.
Love and courage,
Leah
