I read recently that ‘there is increasing evidence that spending time outside in nature is good for our mental wellbeing’. Well, according to that I would say there is also increasing evidence that we are worryingly disconnected from ourselves.
I’m not against ‘evidence’, of course. I’m not against research or proof. It is pretty wonderful to find out the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of things. Still, when I read that, something inside me revolted. But I suppose we are also at a point where we are so out of touch with ourselves as a part of nature that we really do need to be told by outside authorities and ‘experts’ that it would do us good to get out more.
It has become increasingly normal to defer more and more often to outside authorities for knowledge that is readily available to us if we spend time building a connection with the inner or spiritual world.
Still, it is not easy to stay connected with yourself these days. Every day there is something new knocking on your door (actual and metaphorical) to distract you from sitting quietly with yourself and allowing your world of inner wisdom to reveal itself to you.
One of the greatest acts of rebellion we have at our disposal is to reclaim our connection to ourselves. As we reconnect with ourselves more and more, we are less able to be manipulated by outside authorities that seek to use our attention and resources for their own financial gain. Not only that, but we become a space of sanity amongst the madness, which always ripples outwards to others.
Soon, where once there was just a single small puddle of sanity, there is now a great lagoon.
Let us go forth and spend time connecting with ourselves today. Who knows what beautiful wisdom will reveal itself to us!
Love and courage,
Leah
