And sadness said,
‘Why do you always run, love?’
And she replied,
‘I’m afraid that if I stop
we will be bound together forever.’
And sadness replied,
‘Oh, my love, quite the contrary.
I want you to come close
only that I may set you free.’
And she trusted
and moved into the vast arms of sadness
and shook and trembled
in the totality of its embrace;
waves of tears
crashing through her tender heart.
Then came a quiet
the likes of which she had never known
and she touched that peace
of which she’d heard others speak
and she vowed
there in that moment
never to run from sadness again.
Love and courage,
Leah
