Let’s sit cross-legged before one another this morning.
And if cross-legged isn’t possible,
let’s sit before one another in any way
our generous bodies will allow.
Let’s take one another’s hands,
look into one another’s eyes, and
inhale
.
.
.
exhale.
Perhaps at first it will seem strange, this
closeness, this
intimacy.
Perhaps the breath will feel uneven,
shallow,
untrustworthy.
Perhaps the vulnerability of it
will bring a flush of pink to the cheeks,
a nervous sweat to the palms,
or a quiver to the lips.
There might even be a feeling
of wanting to flee.
But in time, if we allow ourselves to stay,
loving ourselves through the awkwardness of it all
we might discover something new.
The breath may become softer,
steadier,
more sure,
as we inhale
.
.
.
exhale.
Our heart rates may begin to slow,
shoulders relaxing now
your breath matching my breath
and my breath matching yours
as we begin to trust the safety
of being here, breathing,
breathing,
breathing one another home.
Love and courage,
Leah
