Sometime around midnight last night we had a huge thunderstorm. The sky flashed bright with lightning and the rain came down so heavily.
I love the way a thunderstorm clears everything out and afterwards there’s a feeling of freshness. A new start. A reset.
Continuing on from the theme of my last email about healing, I’ve been contemplating how we can become so bound by the stories of who we believe we are that we deny ourselves the gift of a new beginning.
We want to transform ourselves and our lives yet keep holding on to old ideas and beliefs of who we are that keep us rooted in the past and prevent us from creating a different future.
With that in mind, I hope this poem can serve as a mini thunderstorm to keep in your pocket and carry with you, helping you let go of old stories and beliefs about who you are so that you can become more of who you know yourself to be in your heart.
Remember, you are worthy of releasing the old and receiving the new.
I open my palms
and let it all go
the self I have been,
the self I have known.
I know that if not
I can never grow
and growing, yes,
is what matters most.
