Has it been three thousand gajillion years since I last wrote you a newsletter?
No my friend, no.
It has, in fact, been a mere forty three days, but as far as the internet’s concerned, I may as well be dead.
I am not dead. Helloooooooo out there.
Latest obsession: Dolly Parton.
I have been listening to Dolly Parton for the last forty three days, hence no newsletter.
I am still listening to Dolly Parton, but I am also doing an experiment to see whether multitasking is really a myth. All the job adverts in the history of forever say, ‘must be able to multitask’ and I’m like, ‘do these people know NOTHING?!’
Considering hiring myself as a job advert consultant. Surely employers would be interested to know that they’re listing ‘inefficient’, ‘unproductive’, and ‘inaccurate’ as required skills.
Turns out I can’t keep listening to Dolly Parton and write this newsletter.
I’m very sad about this but I love you so I’ll keep going because I am actually coming towards a point.
But first, Dolly. WOW! WOW! WOW! Obsessed. What an amazing singer. What an amazing songwriter. What an amazing human.
Did you know she wrote I Will Always Love You? You know, the Whitney Houston song from The Bodyguard? Turns out it’s not the Whitney Houston song but the Dolly Parton song! Not only that, but she wrote it the same day that she wrote Jolene. Two of the most successful songs of all time in one day!
Which confirms something very important: Often the best time to create is when you’ve just finished creating.
So Dolly is amazing. But you know who else is amazing???
YOU, silly.
Do you know what happens when you write a newsletter?
People write back. Or they leave a comment. And you get all these teeny tiny sneak peeks into their lives. And do you know what I’ve deduced from all these sneak peeks?
1. No one is immune to the pain and difficulties of life.
2. Everyone is stronger than they think.
I know that, right now, there are people reading this struggling with unknown illnesses. Struggling with known illnesses. Grieving the passing of a loved one. Going through a breakup. Feeling anxious. Coping with addiction. Asking hard questions. Trying to find a way forward.
I love this kind of window I have into so many lives because it makes me realise very clearly that we are definitely in this together. We are never the only one who has gone through anything. And I draw so much strength and comfort from that.
So I guess I just wanted to take a moment as we come towards the end of the year and say I SEE YOU. Whether your year has been more up than down, or down than up, I would love it if you would just take a second or two this month to acknowledge the strength within you.
No but really, even if you feel like your year’s been a flop or a failure or a mess, you have dealt with and overcome more than you realise and grown more than you might yet know.
And if Christmas, or winter in general, is a challenging time for you, my number one Dolly song recommendation would be Light of a Clear Blue Morning. It is sooooo uplifting! Let me know in the comments below if you love it as much as I do! Or just share your favourite uplifting song.
Love and courage,
Leah
P.S. Now I’m on a roll, I’ll almost certainly send at least one more newsletter before Christmas. In fact, I have two brand new pieces of art almost ready to unveil. They’ll arrive in your inbox this coming Thursday* in a beautiful burst of colour! They are irresistibly lovely and are going to look just perfect on someone’s wall. Check your inbox on Thursday!
*Unless I develop another obsession before then, in which case you will probably hear from me in another 43 days 🙂
